Payment UpdateWeek of Oct 26

Your POS knows what you sold, not who sent them. Lightspeed's new integrations, and three questions for any register

TL;DR

On October 22 Lightspeed added Reserve with Google to its reservations, a Meta link for retail, and paying by scanning the receipt. Registers are starting to compete on bringing people in, not just ringing them up. Here's what the release does and three things worth asking before you compare a single rate.

What happened

Heads up: on October 22, 2026 Lightspeed announced a batch of updates across its Retail, Restaurant and Golf products, and three of them connect the register to where customers come from.

Lightspeed Reservations now supports Reserve with Google, so a guest can see a table and book it from Google Search or Maps. A retailer can connect the store to Meta and send in store sales into the Meta Conversions API, which means seeing whether an ad actually turned into a purchase, with no online store needed. And in restaurants, diners can scan a QR code on the receipt to see the bill, split it and tip. The new Pay at Table app is still in beta.

What it means for you

Say you put $300 into an Instagram promo last month and the week felt busier. Felt. Nobody can tell you how many of those tables the ad brought in, because the booking, the visit and the payment live in three different places.

That's the gap these hookups close: the three land in one record. It's also the new thing to compare registers on. Two systems can take a card exactly the same way and be completely different on this one point, whether they can tell you who sent the customer.

If it were my counter

I'd ask three questions before I compared a single processing rate:

1. Can someone book me from Google without calling. 2. Can the register tell me which promo a sale came from. 3. Can a guest pay and tip without waving a server down.

If the answer's no three times, the rate isn't the only line I'd negotiate. The next POS conversation is about customers, not just cards.

Questions owners ask

Do I need an online store for the Meta integration?

Not according to Lightspeed. The retail integration sends in store POS transactions to Meta so an ad can be matched to a purchase in the shop.

Is Pay at Table available now?

Lightspeed calls the new Pay at Table app a beta. Scanning the receipt to pay is described without a beta label.

Does this only matter for Lightspeed users?

No. The three questions apply to any register. Reserve with Google and ad attribution exist on other platforms too; the point is to ask for them before you sign.
